Today’s post is quite a personal one. As many of you may (or may not) know, I am a soon-to-be bride and I want to share with you some of my personal experiences. This post in particular is about me, finding the perfect venue for my big day.
On the banks of the Vaal River, lay a serene destination, so romantic and tranquil… one could completely lose yourself in the picturesque views. I don’t actually know how to paint a picture with words, but if I could, I would say: Duck Point Wedding Venue is a romantic vista, where dreams are visualised and feelings are not only abstract, but become reality.
The day I said YES!
Firstly, let me introduce to you my better half… Meet Johan Roberts. He is my happily ever after.
We’ve been dating for a few years and I think I’ve kind of always known that this is the person I want to spend the rest of my life with… You know, all the cliche things: he makes me a better person, he’s an amazing human being and all that! So the moment Johan dropped down on one knee, it felt like I was in a dream. Happily in love with my best friend. I never thought I would be so lucky to be with someone that made me whole, loved me unconditionally and wanted to be my partner in life, love and adventure.
I said YES to the big question on the 12th of February 2017. This day was no different from any other day, or so I thought. We went on an outing with some close friends of ours (whom are also amazing photographers), just to have a picnic and explore. Unaware of what was about to happen I was eating some of my favourite snacks (he knows me so well) on the picnic blanket at Walter Sisulu botanical gardens, next thing I knew, a very nervous Johan dropped down on one knee and asked me if I would accompany him on the rest of his journey called life. I was in awe… I actually had to pinch myself in order to realise that this was not a dream, it was the real thing! All while my photographer friends werr capturing this life changing moment on camera. They gave me one of the best gifts of that day, they turned a memory into photos which I could keep forever.
Might I just add that my amazing hubby-to-be planned this whole thing for a while, without me even realising that in a few months my whole life would be changed (for the better of course).
Stuck in this bubble of happiness we decided to get married exactly 6 months after our engagement. So needless to say, the venue hunting began almost immediately!
The First Glance of the Perfect Wedding Venue.
Duck point was the first venue we visited and upon arrival, I knew this would be the venue we would get married at. Let me take you through my first encounter with Duck Point, or as I like to call it: my happily ever after venue.
Jean Prieur Du Plessis whom is the Duck point wedding coordinator gave my future hubby-to-be and I a special grand tour of the venue. We started off with the honeymoon suite. Needless to say, it was AMAZING, I wanted to stay there forever. The honeymoon suite was mind blowing, this room had so much space and was certainly fit for a modern day princess. It had the most beautiful chandeliers (yes there’s more than one) and the most astonishing bathroom. I could picture myself relaxing in a full bubble bath with a glass (or two) of sparkling wine the night after I become Mrs. Roberts!
It doesn’t end there, once you go around the wall in the bathroom there is a breathtaking view of the Vaal River. There are two daybeds for you and your husband to relax at the morning after the wedding. This spacious room also has its own walk in closet, mirror to get ready at circled in lights just like I always wanted around my mirror at home and a luxurious bathroom. The wedding suit also has its own living room where you and your bridesmaid can sit and relax before the wedding while getting ready.
And that is just the tip of the iceberg.
More about the Venue…
The picturesque view of an infinity pool flowing into the Vaal River makes for a perfect spot to serve canapes for your wedding guests after the ceremony. This truly is a magical place, I remember as I was standing on the green grass overlooking the magnificent view… I thought to myself this is the best of both worlds, on the one side there is this remarkably romantic venue that speaks to your soul and on the other hand you can be one with nature, whilst admiring the beautiful vista.
This wedding venue offers the option to have your wedding ceremony outside, next to the river. Which at first I thought was a great idea, but that was before I saw the chapel… All I can say is ROSE GOLD CHAIRS! Yes, I am a little obsessed. WOW! The chapel took my breath away. On the roof of the chapel there is a big cross covered in what seemed like a million little fairy lights. I kind of shrieked a little when I saw it, but that was just pure excitement and true love (don’t tell Johan I said that) leaving my body. I immediately knew that this was the place that I wanted to say ‘I do’.
We then moved on to the reception hall, ugh again. My mind was blown. This place is just so stunning and I was surprised every square meter of this venue. The hall and dance floor overlooks the river and then behind that there are comfy couches for the guests to sit at and relax after all the formalities. This venue offers such a serene environment for you to share you special day with your closest friends and loved ones.
Duck Point also offers accommodation for your guests to stay the night, the accommodation also includes two fully equipped kitchens for the guests to use. I think that this is perfect for the guests that have to travel far, and you can also invite your guests over for your first breakfast as Mr & Mrs.
The Bar area is also quite unique with an actual front of a plane as decor and wallpaper of the world map. By this time in our tour of the sighting I was ready to sell my kidney on the black market just to get married here. Luckily that was not needed as Duck Point offers a remarkable venue that does not break the bank. Also, when you book the venue, your event becomes exclusive, which means that only you and your guests will be on the premises that day.
To me what makes Duck Point such a special wedding venue is that there is a team of fairy godmothers (or so it seems) that help make your dreams a reality! From decor to food to the coordinating the whole day, Jean Prieur and his team really goes the extra mile to ensure that your big day is special and without interruptions.
I hope that you have enjoyed reading a bit about my dream wedding venue. I know that sometimes it seems that you won’t find that special place that speaks to your soul, but just keep looking, the right venue will reveal itself eventually. However, if you feel that this venue seem like your dream wedding destination, please visit the Duck Point Wedding Venue Website for more information!
