How To Get Rid of Dark Circles Under Your Eyes: Home Remedies

Aloe Unique

We all know those stubborn raccoon eyes that show themselves either in allergy season, or even just whenever they feel like it. Well today’s post is all about getting rid of those unwanted dark circles under your eyes. I have decided to split this topic into three different blog posts. In these posts I will be discussing home remedies, make up tips as well as in salon treatments that can possibly prevent and/or eliminate dark circles.

Home Remedies for dark circles:

Firstly I want to discuss home remedies as they are super easy and most people already have all the ingredients at home!

 Grated potatoes

Grate some raw potato and extract the juice of the same. Now take a cotton ball and soak it in the potato juice. Close your eyes and place these cotton balls on your eyes. Make sure they cover the entire area of the dark circles under your eyes as well as the eyelids. Leave it on for 10 minutes and wash off with cold water. You can also visit our previous blog post on Potato Face Masks, so while you’re at it, you might as well just treat your whole face!

Cucumbers

Cucumbers have skin-lightening and mild astringent properties that help fix those raccoon eyes naturally. Plus, they have a soothing and refreshing effect.

  • Cut a fresh cucumber into thick slices and chill them in the refrigerator for 30 minutes. Put the slices onto the affected skin area for about 10 minutes. Wash the area with water. Repeat twice daily for about a week or more.
  • Another option is to mix cucumber juice with lemon juice in equal amounts. Use a cotton ball to apply the mixture on the affected skin. Leave it on for 15 minutes and then wash it off with water. Follow this remedy daily for at least one week.

Cold tea bags

Another simple technique to get rid of the dark circles is using cold tea bags. Soak a tea bag preferably a chamomile, rooibos or green tea bags in water. Chill it by placing it in the refrigerator for a while. Now, place them over your eyes. Use this remedy on a regular basis to see considerable difference. Tea is pretty much a healer for anything from heartache to a sore throat. Don’t hesitate to try this one at home. You can also read some more on what the benefits of Rooibos tea is in our previous blog post .

Good-nights-sleep

This is probably one of the most important aspects of eliminating dark circles under your eyes. A good nights sleep can do wonders, not only for your face, but for your whole body. And I have said this so many times before, but for those of you who have not yet read all my posts. I always tell my clients that it is so important to take good care of yourself. It is extremely necessary to take a ‘pause’ moment every once in a while.

I usually have a ‘pause’ moment once a month, with my favourite Matismela Home Spa products. It really does wonders for your mind and body!

I hope that you have found this blog post useful and that you will remember to take good care of yourself.

Have a great weekend!
