Benefits of Essential Oils

Aromatherapy – also referred to as Essential Oil therapy, can be defined as the art and science of utilizing naturally extracted aromatic essences from plants to balance, harmonize and promote the health of body, mind and spirit.

Feel free to visit Adara Beauty Clinic for a professional Aroma therapy massage where trained Aroma-therapists can treat you for your specific concerns with a blend of essential oils to promote physical and emotional well-being.

Aroma Therapy Massage With Essential Oils

One needs to blend a base, middle and top note into a carrier oil to make the perfect aroma blend. Below I will discuss a few variations of essential oil blends:

Carrier Essential Oils:

Carrier oils are naturally derived from vegetarian sources and have a neutral smell. They aren’t volatile like essential oils, which makes them an excellent medium for dilution and application.

Grape seed oil

(Light and thin consistency, suitable for all skin types and very moisturizing.

Sweet almond oil

(Slightly sweet, nutty aroma, medium consistency, absorbs quickly into the skin and rich in vitamin c.

Jojoba oil

(Slightly nutty aroma, medium consistency, suitable for oily skin types)

Olive oil

( Thicker consistency, strong aroma, Good source of omega fatty acid)

Coconut oil

( Solid at room temperature, Coconut aroma, Leaves moist oily layer on skin)

Shea Butter

( Nutty aroma, leaves a waxy-feeling on skin)

Top notes:

Essential oils that are classified as top notes normally evaporate very fast and normally also have anti-viral properties.

These oils tend to be light, fresh and uplifting in nature and are generally not very expensive. Top notes are generally highly volatile, fast acting, give the first impression of the blend and are not very long lasting.

Popular top notes:

Basil

(improves digestion, Relieves stress)

Bergamot

( Powerful antidepressant, soothes skin irritation)

Grapefruit

( Stress-fighter, anti-inflammatory)

Lemon

( Cleansing and purification)

Neroli

( Helps relieve stress and anxiety)

Middle notes:

The bulk of essential oils are considered middle notes and normally give body to the blend and have a balancing effect.

The smells of middle notes are not always immediately evident and may take a couple of minutes to come into their own right and are normally warm and soft fragrances.

Popular Middle Notes:

Chamomile

( Boost skin health, reduces symptoms of insomnia)

Geranium

( Balances hormones, improves circulation)

Lavender

(Relaxing effects, relieve skin irritations)

Rosemary

(liver detoxification, Lowers cholesterol)

Nutmeg

( Helps relieve muscle pain, swelling and inflammation)

Base notes

Essential oils that are classified as base notes are normally “heavy” oils with their fragrance evident, but will also slowly evolve and be present for a long time and slows down the evaporation of the other oils.

These fragrances are normally intense and heady. They are normally rich and relaxing in nature and are also the most expensive of all oils.

Popular Base notes:

Rose

(Antidepressant, astringent)

Sandalwood

( Relaxing, calming, expectorant)

Vanilla

(Antioxidant, aphrodisiac)

Jasmine

(Cicatrisant, sedative)

Patchouli

(Natural deodorant, stops fungal growth)

My personal favorite blend is:

Carrier oil:

Grapeseed oil

Top note:

Grapefruit

Middle note:

Geranium

Base note:

Sandalwood
